Gold Bond Sheer Ribbons
What exactly do you look for in a body cream, moisturizer or lotion? Do you want your skin to feel dewy, slick or velvety? Everyone has their own definition of how moisturizing feels to them. The common denominator is that you do not want to look like you got into a fight with a bag of flour.
Moisturizers come in combination of different formulations. For example oil and water formulation where those two ingredients are mixed with an emulsifier because as you know oil and water do not mix. Some examples of emulsifiers that can be found in lotion could be beeswax or borax. Is there a difference between creams and lotions? They all do the same thing right? There is a difference between the two but the both do basically deal with the same issue dry skin. According to the website from nature with love:
Creams are usually about 2/3 oil phase (oils, butters, waxes) and 1/3 water phase (all water soluble ingredients) while lotions are about 2/3 water phase and 1/3 oil phase. 5% beeswax is generally sufficient to give your emulsion body. These ratios can be adjusted according to your specific needs. The amount of emulsifier depends on what you are using the moisturizer for (i.e., face, body, or young skin) but generally you will need about 5-10% if using an emulsifying wax or 15-20% if you are using Polysorbate 20. http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/library/lotionmaking.asp
The major difference is how you want to moisturizer to feel on the skin. Do you like to see the shine glowing off your skin or do you prefer it to be quickly absorbed into the skin? Personally I rather treat my skin with a lotion at night that way I do not have the all too common cream body print on my bedding. Getting that out of your sheets can be a nightmare.
Now onto what you all have been waiting for, my review of the Gold bond Ultimate Sheer Ribbons body lotion uncensored. I purchased this lotion for CVS for about $10 (but I had a coupon). The container states it contains 7 moisturizers and natural silk proteins. My first thought was oh really. The product is in an aerosol can with a pump that disperses to ribbons of lotion. The consistency is really thick and feels quite nice on the skin. It comes with about 7.1 ounces of product.
The pros about the lotion is that it leaves your skins feeling really moisturized for over 8 hours and hold ups through hand washing. The smell is not too over powering, it does have a soft perfume that will not clash with your normal everyday fragrance. The cons are this product should not be classified as a lotion but more like a cream. I applied this at night and it left a dreadful oil stain of my sheets (sateen)…forget about getting that out…the sheets are now doggy bedding. I have been using this product at night for about two weeks and the can was completely empty after I took the picture to show the ‘ribbons’, which was disappointing.I give this product a solid 2 out of 5. With regular use you will go through about two cans a month. In my opinion that is just not worth it. I prefer for a lotion to be absorbed in the skin within the hour, but this products floats on top of the skin for some time. I would recommend this product to those who like visual evidence of lotion on your skin. For all others I would say to use a lotion with a small amount oil added if your want your skin to be moisturized but not shiny.
